There
are too many foreclosure scams for us to list here, so we are
going to describe several simple questions to ask yourself before
you sign any documents or send money to anyone. A full examination
of all the known foreclosure scams, along with instructions
on how to get your money back, is included in our foreclosure blog, and we will help
you determine whether you have been a victim of a scam. |
Ask
yourself the following questions:
When you look up the company with the BBB, Google or Yahoo, do you find complaints or warnings from previous clients?
Are
you being asked to sign a "Quit Claim Deed" or other document that transfers ownership of your home?
Do they require a large up-front payment, with no guarantee of ever performing the services they promised?
Are they asking you to send money without a contract or agreement that outlines the details of the services that will be performed on your behalf?
If
you answered yes to any of these questions, you are most likely
being scammed.
Unfortunately,
many foreclosure victims have a hard time distinguishing the
real solutions from a typical scam.
Follow
these 3 simple rules:
- Do
not send money to anyone unless you know exactly what you
are paying for.
- Do
not sign anything that transfers the title of your home to another party.
- Get the details of your transaction, along with all guarantees and/or promises in writing.
- If you feel you are a victim of predatory lending or other mortgage lender misconduct, trust your instincts and ask for help.
